New Life BP Church undertakes the sponsorship of the 58th Boys Brigade (BB) Company at Riverside Secondary School. A Memorandum of Understanding was then signed on 28th May 1997 which categorically states “that New Life B-P Church is not required to participate in any of the ecumenical meetings”. The BB Ministry has given us the opportunity to evangelize to the Boys at the school where the BB is a Co-Curricular Activity (CCA).
Since 1998, New Life BP Church has undertaken the sponsorship of the 58th Boys Brigade (BB) Company at Riverside Secondary School. 10 Boys on average are recruited into our company each year. The recruits undergo the basic training course in various BB activities and are also taught the Word of God. The theme for the Christian Education is on the “Person of Christ”. There are 20 lessons conducted by Rev Lim and Dn William Goh who take turn to teach the senior and the junior boys. At the same time these Boys are inducted into New Life BP Church.
The object of the Boys Brigade is the advancement of Christ Kingdom among Boys, and the promotion of habits of Obedience, Reverence, Discipline, Self-respect and all that tends towards a true Christian Manliness.
Our motto is taken from Heb 6:19 “Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast…” An exhortation taken from 1 Cor. 15:58 “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always bounding in the work of the Lord , for as much as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord” helps to exhort the Officers in the work of the Lord and that always.
The Boys perform bagpipes displays at various functions. The Boys also perform community services at Ju Eng Home for Senior Citizens. During BB Cares week, the Boys brought the elderly folks to the Botanical Garden, the Singapore Zoological Gardens, the Underwater World etc. The Boys also help out in the annual Christmas Light-up at Orchard Road and the distribution of “well-wishes” gifts to various welfare organisations during the Sharity Gift Box in December. The Boys also attend our Church Family Day.
